LaserSpeed® gauge replaces contact-type methods, enabling aluminum mills to significantly improve product quality, increase productivity, and realize manufacturing savings
Shanghai, China –May 23, 2014 – Beta LaserMike, a leading global provider of precision measurement and control solutions, will be exhibiting its LaserSpeed® non-contact length and speed gauge at this year’s Aluminum China 2014 Conference and Exhibition at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (July 9 – 11).
Precision speed and length measurements are critical for controlling production costs and improving process control in the aluminum industry. Traditional contact measurement systems, such as contact rollers and tachometers, have inherent problems with slippage and mechanical wear. This creates unwanted scrap and costly maintenance, and reduces product quality.
The LaserSpeed gauge from Beta LaserMike eliminates the measurement errors associated mechanical contact systems because it uses a unique, laser-based measurement technique that does not contact the product. LaserSpeed is permanently calibrated, has no moving parts to wear out, and provides ±0.05% measurement accuracy with ±0.02% repeatability. It is an idea replacement for contact measurement devices. LaserSpeed is proven in numerous mill applications, including continuous slab, billet, and bloom casters; cutting control; elongation control in temper and skin pass mills; gauge control in cold rolling mills; and other applications.
Beta LaserMike offers a complete series of LaserSpeed gauges to operate in harsh aluminum production mill environments:
• LS8000 Series – precisely measures length and speed at stand-off distances ranging from 300 mm to over 2,500 mm (12 in. to 98.4 in), and speeds up to 20,000 m/min (65,000 ft/min.)
• LS9000 Series – measures zero speed (no movement) and automatically detects forward and reverse direction
• LS8000E/9000E – enclosed in a rugged environmental housing for double-sealed protection of hot and hostile environments
• LS8000X/9000X – enclosed in a stainless-steel housing for the toughest, extreme environments where heavy steam, mist, and spray occur
